In only a year Clint Darby has gone from being named “Montgomery’s best kept secret,” (Montgomery Advertiser 3/24/05) to being named Montgomery’s Best Local Club Act of 2005 (Montgomery Advertiser 12/29/05), along with duo partner Kip Traylor. During this period Darby released his self-titled E.P. The C.D. contains seven tracks that showcase Clint’s growth; from tracks that began developing as far as two years ago to a few new demo tracks that were written in the last six months.
The music on the album is diverse handling piano and acoustic guitar with influences of the Beatles to electric guitars and strings of a more contemporary rock background to heavy acoustic tracks with influences by artists such as Mindy Smith and Nickel Creek. “My musical influences have helped shape me, but also have given me the freedom to develop and grow through my own experience. As a songwriter my themes often include personal challenge, love, hope and sometimes the melancholy that surrounds these feelings,” Darby expresses. Clint started performing music over ten years ago beginning in high school bands, ending up for five years playing in a leading party band touring colleges in the southeast and ultimately now pursuing his dream of becoming a professional musician/artist, entirely focused on developing his career as a singer/songwriter and performer.
Darby is quickly growing beyond his local scene, averaging at least fifteen shows amonth and has quickly moved into neighboring cities and states. Last year with hisformer band, he opened up for artist Al Green at the annual Montgomery JubileeCityFest. He also finished just one point short of placement in the MontgomeryAdvertiser’s 2005 Battle of the Bands; a powerful statement about his music and performance considering he was the only acoustic act of the entire day.
Within the last year Clint has been joined by Kip Traylor, a female vocalist and guitarist. Together they team up to form a powerful duo offering high energy performances with lead and rhythm guitar, vocal harmonies, a powerful writing style and music that pleases any crowd. Clint and Kip recently finished recording their debut E.P., have completed two regional tours and are planning to follow up by recording new material in preparation for their 2006 spring and summer tours.
Clint Darby’s debut E.P. features 7 songs which are a sample of the current recordings and ongoing musical journey. Each song in its flowing text and music makes connections between experience, emotional reactions and reflections of personal ventures. It embodies the value of influence, but continually finds growth through freedom and the insightful experience of finding music.
Clint Darby can currently be seen performing across the Southeast in promotion of his current E.P.’s.
